The Significance of Keeping Your Pet Hydrated During Summer
With the warmer months, the risks of heat exhaustion and dehydration become serious concerns that can lead to health problems and even fatal consequences. The key to preventing dehydration is simple: ensure your pet has constant access to fresh water, allowing you both to enjoy a fun and safe summer together.
Understanding the Importance of Water
Water not only provides essential hydration but also plays a vital role in regulating body temperature and maintaining organ health. Deprivation of water can result in dehydration, which may present itself through symptoms like lethargy, dry gums, sunken eyes, and increased panting.
Ways to Prevent Dehydration
To prevent dehydration in pets, it’s essential to monitor their water intake and ensure they have access to water both indoors and outdoors. Given that pets tend to be more active in the summer, they lose fluids through panting and sweating, making it even more critical to provide an adequate water supply.
Addressing Picky Drinkers
Some pets can be particular about the water they drink. To encourage proper hydration, offer clean and fresh water. You can make it more appealing by adding fruit slices, ice cubes, or broth. Additionally, some pets may prefer running water, making a pet water fountain a viable option.
Seeking Veterinary Assistance
If you notice that your pet is not drinking enough water or displaying signs of dehydration, don’t hesitate to contact us immediately. Veterinarians can offer essential care in severe dehydration cases. They may conduct a hydration test and administer subcutaneous or intravenous fluids to address the issue promptly and effectively.

Juneteenth honors the day the last Confederate community of 250,000 enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas, received word that they have been freed. 2 years and 5 months after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. On June 19, 1872, community leaders saved $1,000 to purchase land in 1872, that would be devoted specifically to Juneteenth celebrations. That land became Emancipation Park. Texas was the first state to recognize Juneteenth in 1980, calling it “Emancipation Day.” On June 17, 2021, Juneteenth National Independence Act, established June 19th as a federal holiday.
