Titer tests

There is strong evidence that over vaccinating our pets can cause conditions such as autoimmune disease, skin disease, digestive disorders, behavioral problems, seizures and even certain types of cancer.  One way we can avoid unnecessary vaccinations is to check titers that measure the antibody levels against certain diseases.

What is a titer?

A titer is the measure of antibodies against a certain disease. If your pet has a certain level of antibodies, then they are protected and there is no need to vaccinate. The test requires a small amount of blood and we can now run the test right in our clinic at an affordable cost. Studies worldwide support titer test results as comprehensive information about a dog’s immunological response capabilities.

Distemper Combo

This titer measures antibody levels for parvo, distemper, and adenovirus. We can run this titer test the same day. There are no tests currently available for bordetella or influenza.  We have partnered with some pet care facilities that will agree to accept titer results in lieu of vaccinations.  Check out our Facebook page for a list of these providers.

Rabies Titer

This test is for informational purposes only to determine your pet’s level of protection from previous vaccinations.  Colorado state law states that all pets should have a current rabies vaccine.  The titer, even if positive, is not a legal replacement for the vaccination, but we suggest checking your locale municipality to be sure.  You may still be required, per state law, to obtain a rabies vaccine at some point. A rabies titer is not a replacement for legally required vaccines and as a pet owner you are responsible to keep your pet in compliance with current laws and regulations.
